Argentina’s weekly soybean, corn sales up for 2024-25 but down for old crop; wheat sales rise

Sales of Argentine soybeans and corn rose for the 2024-25 marketing year but fell for 2023-24 in the week to July 31, while wheat sales increased week on week across both crop years, according to data released by Argentina’s agriculture secretariat on Wednesday, August 7.

Soybean

Sales of the 2024-25 soybean crop rose by 1.6% week on week to 61,000 tonnes, while sales of the 2023-24 crop were down by 14.7% to 470,000 tonnes.

Total sales for the 2024-25 crop year were 516,000 tonnes, down by 16.4% year on year from 617,700 tonnes.

Regarding the 2023-24 crop, 24.58 million tonnes have been sold year to date, up by 111% year on year from 11.60 million tonnes.

Export license applications for the 2024-25 crop have not been issued so far, while 96,000 tonnes had been released a year prior for the 2023-24 crop.

Applications to export the 2023-24 crop came in at 4.22 million tonnes, considerably up year on year from 1.07 million tonnes.

Corn

Farmer sales of the 2024-25 corn crop increased by 72.1% to 136,000 tonnes over the week to July 31, while sales of the 2023-24 crop were considerably lower by 44.2% at 951,000 tonnes.

On a cumulative basis, 453,800 tonnes of the 2024-25 crop have been sold year to date, down by 67.3% year on year from 1.38 million tonnes.

Total sales of the 2023-24 crop reached 26.96 million tonnes, up by 38.4% year on year.

Export license applications for the 2024-25 crop were at 400,000 tonnes, while 50,000 tonnes had been reported a year prior for the 2023-24 crop.

Export applications for the 2023-24 crop totaled 28.34 million tonnes, considerably up year on year from 14.92 million tonnes.

Wheat

Farmer sales of the 2024-25 wheat crop rose by 75.9% to 95,000 tonnes during the week to July 31, and sales of the 2023-24 crop were up by 25.6% to 142,000 tonnes.

A total of 2.42 million tonnes of the 2024-25 crop have been sold year to date, above the 1 million tonnes sold at the same point in 2023.

Cumulative sales of the 2023-24 crop reached 11.55 million tonnes, compared with 10.80 million tonnes a year prior.

Export license applications for the 2024-25 crop were at zero, unchanged from the previous season.

Export applications for the 2023-24 crop stood at 1.77 million tonnes, down year on year from 8.87 million.
