Fastmarkets to add 12 new pallet assessments

Fastmarkets is making clarifying changes to the names of six current pallet assessments (listed below) and adding 12 new pallet price assessments.

Current pallet assessments are as follows:

  • FP-LBR-2231 Pallets, western softwood, GMA A-grade, delivered Chicago, $/pallet
  • FP-LBR-2232 Pallets, western softwood, GMA A-grade, delivered New York City, $/pallet
  • FP-LBR-2233 Pallets, western softwood, GMA A-grade, delivered San Francisco, $/pallet
  • FP-LBR-2234 Pallets, western softwood, GMA A-grade, delivered Dallas-Fort Worth, $/pallet
  • FP-LBR-2235 Pallets, western softwood, GMA A-grade, delivered Seattle, $/pallet
  • FP-LBR-2236 Pallets, western softwood, GMA A-grade, delivered Los Angeles, $/pallet

The name changes for existing pallet assessments are as follows:

  • Pallets, softwood, new GMA, delivered Chicago, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, new GMA, delivered New York City, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, new GMA, delivered San Francisco, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, new GMA, delivered Dallas-Fort Worth, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, new GMA, delivered Seattle, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, new GMA, delivered Los Angeles, $/pallet

The new pallet assessments are as follows:

  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-A GMA, delivered Chicago, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-A GMA, delivered New York City, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-A GMA, delivered San Francisco, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-A GMA, delivered Dallas-Fort Worth, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-A GMA, delivered Seattle, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-A GMA, delivered Los Angeles, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-B GMA, delivered Chicago, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-B GMA, delivered New York City, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-B GMA, delivered San Francisco, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-B GMA, delivered Dallas-Fort Worth, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-B GMA, delivered Seattle, $/pallet
  • Pallets, softwood, used grade-B GMA, delivered Los Angeles, $/pallet

Industry feedback suggests that regional production differences in softwood pallets are negligible, eliminating the need to differentiate between eastern and western stock. Further, grade-A and grade-B pallets are most commonly used to designate used pallets, and Fastmarkets will drop the grades and instead designate pallets as either “new” or “used,” with grades included where applicable.

Fastmarkets will also add 12 new pallet assessments, covering grade-A and grade-B used pallets in each of the six existing delivered markets of Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

Changes to existing assessment names and the addition of new pallet assessments will go into effect beginning on April 30.
